Position(s) nominated for: Transportation Synopsis: Since the 1950's US government transportation and economic systems have prioritized the automobile. Fifty years on, that post WWII model is proving unsustainable. Mr. Norquist, Backbone Cabinet nominee for Secretary of Transportation, is former Mayor of Milwaukee (1988-2003), and current President and CEO of the Congress for New Urbanism (CNU). He is the author of the book entitled The Wealth of Cities. The Congress for New Urbanism is the leading organization applying the principles of city and town design to today's development challenges, including local, regional and national transportation planning.
