What is the Backbone Campaign?
The Backbone Campaign is a grassroots effort to embolden citizens and elected officials to stand up for progressive values. We are expanding the political dialogue by providing creative tools for citizens and the progressive movement. The backbone symbolizes an interlocking agenda, a coalition, and the personal courage necessary to fight for a future worthy of our children.

I'm not a big fan of post-partisan America, a notion that seems to amount to running the government through two political parties but taking care that one of them not perform in any significant way better than the other one. But I am a fan of the idea, which nobody ever seems to consider, of actually disempowering parties.
It's official! There is now a bill before Congress to amend the Constitution permitting Congress and the States to regulate the expenditure of funds by corporations engaging in political speech. House Joint Resolution, H.J.RES.74 submitted by progressive Congresswoman Donna Edwards (Thank you Rep. Edwards!) Call your Representative TODAY and ask them to co-sponsor this effort to defend representative democracy.

Backbone Campaign has received a $50,000 grant from the Nathan Cummings Foundation to co-produce 7 regional Artful Activism Summits in 2010. (YEAH! - Thanks NCF!)
We now will be able to bring artists and trainers to help YOUR local campaigns. These festive summits will result in spectacle tools like giant puppets, banners and props that will remain with the lucky seven host communities/organizations/campuses in order to support their ongoing work and eventual victory!
