Sanho Tree is a fellow at the Drug Policy Project of the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington, D.C. He has been nominated to the Backbone Campaign's Progressive Cabinet for Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy. We spoke with him about the current state of the War on Drugs. As the United States pursues a punitive policy in its efforts to control drug addiction, the costs mount but there have been few real victories. Sanho Tree talked about the dynamics that keep ineffective and expensive policies in place as well as offering an alternative approach.
